After over four years of running SmithersProductions.com, December 2014 will be the last month that I will be updating. This website started back in my sophomore year of college at The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Moving from a small town in New Jersey to the big city was a huge deal for me at the young age of eighteen, and boy did I dive in headfirst. My years working and getting through school were adventurous, interning for Relix Magazine, working on more than a few thesis films and independent shorts, which led to finding my way to where I am now.
At 24, I work both as an independent filmmaker and in the music venue industry, managing the Box Office and also working in the production field at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Working for Brooklyn Bowl for the past three years has afforded me the opportunity to not only hone my video skills shooting some incredible live acts, like Elvis Costello, The Roots and Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead to name a few, but also taught me the real importance of artist relations. The way you treat and work with people truly effects the quality of your work, as well as the way that others view your work. My goal is to put those ideals into how I handle each and every film project.
I picked up a video camera at a young age to capture two things, skateboarding and music. After all these years, I could no longer ignore the fact that my filmmaking and music have always been intertwined. For the past few months, I have been working on and starting up my own business--something that I can attach myself to, legitimize myself in the industry and in the eyes of the almighty IRS, but most importantly to allow myself to grow as a filmmaker. So without further ado, I would to like announce the beginning of Foggy Notions Productions.
Granted, the site will not go live until January 1st, 2015, but there it is! I have taken the steps to legitimize myself by creating an LLC, and signing a lease for an editing suite/work space, which will be located in Bushwick at the soon to be open Our Wicked Lady studios. To find out more about that incredible space, visit ourwickedlady.com. Needless to say, I am incredibly excited to start this new chapter, and I really hope those of you who have either stumbled upon this site for the first time or are a repeat viewer, will come along for the ride!
